Fall 2026 in NYC: Outdoor Weddings in the Parks & By the Water
It's officially fall in New York City, and if you've been dreaming of an outdoor wedding, this is your season. The brutal summer heat is gone, the air is crisp, the leaves are turning — and right now, park and waterfront ceremonies are having a serious moment.
As an officiant who's performed ceremonies all over this city, let me tell you: a fall ceremony under golden trees or with the skyline glowing behind you is pure magic. But there are a few things you should know before you pick your date.
Why Fall Works So Well
Cool temperatures mean everyone is comfortable — no sweating through suits, no wilting bouquets. Your guests can actually enjoy being outside. The fall foliage does half your decorating for you, and that soft autumn light makes for stunning photos without even trying.
Favorite kinds of spots this time of year: Central Park's tree-lined paths and boat landings, Riverside Park, and the waterfront promenades in Brooklyn and Queens with those unbeatable skyline views.
The One Thing to Watch: Early Sunsets
Here's the catch with fall weddings — the sun goes down early, and it gets earlier every week. If you're planning an outdoor ceremony, timing is everything.
My advice: aim for a mid-afternoon ceremony, around 2 to 4 PM. That gives you plenty of daylight for the vows, the kiss, and photos afterward — including that gorgeous golden-hour glow. Check the sunset time for your exact date when you're planning, and work backward from there. A 5 PM ceremony in October can leave you finishing in the dark, and nobody wants that.
The Permit Situation (Easier Than You Think)
One of the best-kept secrets about NYC weddings: park permits are cheap and easy. A standard Special Event Permit for most NYC parks costs only $25 for two hours, and you apply through a simple online form.
And here's the part couples love: if your group is under 20 people, you don't need a permit at all. Just show up with your officiant and your people and get married.
I wrote a full breakdown of the permit process earlier this year — NYC Park Permits post — for the details on where to apply and what to expect.
Project Cupid Is Still By Appointment Only
A quick note: Project Cupid remains by appointment only. Fall is a popular season and my calendar fills up, so if you're thinking about an October or November ceremony, reach out sooner rather than later and we'll lock in your date.
Let's Plan Your Fall Ceremony
Whether you're picturing an intimate elopement under the changing leaves, a waterfront ceremony at sunset, or a themed celebration with your closest people, fall in NYC is the perfect backdrop — and I'd be honored to officiate it.
