D.I.Y Wedding Stationery Guide

          The "Wash of Colour" Collection

In the world of wedding planning, the first impression your guests receive is the stationery. If you are dreaming of a romantic, vintage-inspired celebration, there is nothing quite as timeless as the soft, ethereal look of watercolours.

The secret to this stunning set? Pre-printed watercolour paper. It allows you to achieve a high-end, artistic look without ever having to pick up a paintbrush. Below is a comprehensive guide to recreating this entire suite—from the Save the Dates to the Favor Boxes.

1. Check Book Invitations

The "Check Book" style is a modern favorite, keeping guest information and the formal invitation neatly layered.

Materials (Per Invitation)

  • 1/3 Sheet of Matt White Card

  • 1 Sheet of White Linen Paper

  • 1/3 Sheet of Watercolours Paper

  • 1 Folk Heart Button

  • 60cm Light Pink Hemp Cord

  • Tools: Paper trimmer, hot melt glue gun, hole punch.

Instructions

  1. Print & Cut: Print your guest info (21cm x 10.5cm) and invitation wording (9cm x 10.5cm) onto linen paper. Leave a 3cm gap at the top.

  2. Layering: Cut your white card base to 21cm x 10.5cm and the watercolour paper to 17cm x 10.5cm.

  3. Assembly: Stack the guest info, invitation panel, and watercolour paper. Align the top edges.

  4. Binding: Punch two holes 1cm from the top. Thread hemp cord through the holes three times and tie at the back.

  5. Finish: Thread a heart button onto a 20cm piece of cord, tie a bow, and glue it to the top centre.

2. Envelope Invitations & Save the Dates

For a more tactile experience, these invitations nestle inside a handmade watercolour envelope, paired with a matching circular Save the Date.

Envelope Invitation Instructions

  1. The Envelope: Cut watercolour paper to 21cm x 21cm and use an envelope punch board to create a square.

  2. Internal Framing: Glue a square of watercolour paper (3mm smaller than the interior) inside.

  3. Wording: Print invitation wording on linen paper (9.5cm x 9.5cm) and mount it onto a 10cm x 10cm white card.

  4. The Wrap: Wrap 150cm of cord around the closed envelope four times. Thread through a heart button and tie a bow.

Save the Date Instructions

  1. The Base: Cut white card to 10.5cm x 12cm; score and fold.

  2. Detail: Attach a 10.5cm x 6cm piece of watercolour paper to the top half of the card front.

  3. Circular Detail: Use a die-cutter to create a small "Save the Date" circle and a larger watercolour circle. Layer and glue to the front.

3. Order of Service

The final piece for your ceremony, featuring a delicate dangling tag and rustic binding.

Instructions

  1. Cover: Adhere watercolour paper (21cm x 13.5cm) to the front of a folded A4 white card.

  2. Tag: Create a circular "Order of Service" tag using a die-cutter and a hole punch.

  3. Binding: Use a long-arm stapler to secure your printed pages inside, or punch holes and hand-tie them with hemp cord.

4. Place Cards & Favor Boxes

Carry the theme onto your reception tables for a cohesive, professional finish.

Place Cards

  • Base: 9cm x 14cm white card (scored/folded).

  • Detail: 9cm x 5cm watercolour paper glued to the top.

  • Finish: Add a hemp cord bow and heart button to the center.

Favor Boxes

  1. Wrap: Cut watercolour paper 1cm wider than your box and long enough to wrap around it.

  2. Secure: Use a tape runner to fix the paper, folding the ends neatly like a gift.

  3. Tie: Wrap 1m of hemp cord around the box 4–5 times, crossing at the top. Secure with a heart button.
